As with Dan, Paul also began diving at an early age with his parents in Malaysia. Paul received his undergraduate degree at CSU Monterey Bay with a Bachelors of Science in Marine Science. Furthering his education in marine science he studied biological oceanography at Moss Landing Marine Labs. Currently he is a marine technician at Scripps Institution of Oceanography in San Diego. This work gives him the opportunity to travel around the world maintaining scientific equipment for Scripps. Paul formerly worked as an instrument technician in the Applied Research Lab at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, has worked for Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI), and interned with Harbor Branch Oceanographic. He has spent a considerable amount of time on various large regional and global class oceanographic research vessels around the globe. Paul has extensive dive training as a certified science diver through the Academy of Underwater Sciences for Scripps, with over 100 working science dives, and as a NAUI Dive Master with over 1000 dives. When not diving for work, Paul enjoys searching for funny algae (marine botany), harvesting abalone (big snails), spearfishing, nudibranch identification, and shallow subtidal ecology.
